Future Flower

I am slightly worried about the birds that will crash into it but I still think this Future Flower is absolutely beautiful. Designed by the talented and award-winning Tonkin Liu and commissioned by Halton Borough Council, this piece of art can be found on the banks of the River Mersey in Widnes, Cheshire.

With its arrival it symbolises the beginning of the transformation and regeneration of the area. It is hoped that the 4.5 metre-wide wind-powered metallic flower will spur repopulation of the waterfont by nature and by people. Sixty low-voltage LED lights are woven into the flower which are powered by three mini wind-turbines attached to the stem.

I’ll stop gushing now and let you enjoy the beautiful design with a selection of images.
